Alpha's Twins Chapter 281
Adrian's words caught me completely off guard.
"Wait, you came all the way here just to tell me some rumor isn't true?" I stared at him in disbelief. "Adrian, have you lost your damn mind?"
He let out this long sigh, like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. He tilted his head back and rubbed his neck, avoiding my eyes completely.
I heard him mutter under his breath, "I thought you'd get the wrong idea about me."
I raised an eyebrow. Something was definitely off about him. The way he was acting was just... weird.
"Why would I get the wrong idea? We have nothing to do with each other anymore. I've got my own boyfriend now. I couldn't care less about who you're breaking up with or getting back together with," I said with a smirk.
Max popped into my head, and I had to admit I was pretty impressed with how bold he'd been about letting everyone know he was into me.
When I looked back at Adrian, he was staring at me with this dark expression, like he really didn't like what I'd just said.
"You shouldn't have said yes to that guy. He's no good for you."
"Excuse me?"
He took a step toward me, and I automatically stepped back. Next thing I knew, he was walking right into my house, his eyes scanning everything.
"What the hell is wrong with you? You can't just waltz into my house uninvited!"
He actually had the nerve to scoff at me. "This whole pack belongs to me. I don't need anyone rolling out the welcome mat."
He brushed past me and headed deeper into the house. I spun around, frowning.
"Where do you think you're going?"
"Where's Alpha Martin?"
I rushed after him and grabbed his arm. My wolf stirred at the contact.
I yanked Adrian around to face me, pushing down my wolf's reaction. "Why do you want to see my dad? What could you possibly have left to say to him? You've already disrespected him enough. I'm not putting up with any more of your crap today."
His eyes dropped to where my hand was wrapped around his wrist.
"Watch your language. You've really changed over the years. That's not how a La—"
He stopped mid-sentence when I raised an eyebrow at him. He looked away and mumbled, "No woman should talk like that."
I rolled my eyes. "You came here to pick a fight with me, didn't you?"
I started to let go of his wrist, but he caught my hand, making me freeze.
He looked straight into my eyes, and I noticed something that made me feel uncomfortable.
His expression had gone soft. I blinked and looked away.
"Let go of my hand," I said angrily.
He pulled me closer, which totally shocked me. I was about to yell at him when his voice went gentle—that tone I used to desperately want to hear from him. But back then, he never spoke to me like that. I might as well have been a piece of furniture to him.
"Natalia."
I took a deep breath and glared at him. "What's your game this time? Why are you really here? Just tell me."
Then he said something that brought all my old memories flooding back.
"I screwed up badly with you. Our whole marriage, I believed Lynda's lies and completely misjudged you. I'm sorry, Natalia."
