Alpha's Twins Chapter 38
Doctor Harold stared at me for a while. After glancing briefly at Grace and Lucas Miller, he suddenly turned his attention back to me.
"Natalia?" he murmured my name.
I walked over to him and asked, "How are you, Doctor Harold?"
"Good. It's been a long time."
"Yeah, way too long."
From his expression, I could tell he wasn't sure whether Adrian had brought me here against my will or if I'd come back to this pack on my own.
I wanted to thank him right then and there, but I held back. Instead, I just wanted to ease his worry, so I said, "I came here to see Uncle Lucas."
He nodded and replied in a quieter tone, "Oh, I see."
The other doctors were staring at me since they didn't know who I was. I stepped aside so they could examine their patient.
"Harold, honey, is everything okay?" Aunt Grace asked.
Doctor Harold gave her a quick nod before walking over to Lucas Miller.
I noticed Doctor Harold was carrying a file in his hand.
"The test results are in. We need to discuss this with the Alpha," he told Aunt Grace.
He meant Adrian. He wanted to go over the report with Adrian.
"You don't need to talk to him. If it's about my health, you can tell me directly," Uncle Lucas said.
Given the argument he'd had with his son earlier, I thought his response made sense.
"But Mr. Miller, this is serious. I can't discuss it without him present," Doctor Harold tried to explain.
I could see the worry on Doctor Harold's face. Something was definitely wrong with Uncle Lucas's health—he looked really nervous about it.
One of the doctors helped Uncle Lucas lie down on the bed. He raised his hand, and another physician handed him a syringe, which he then injected into Uncle Lucas's arm.
"This should give you some relief," the doctor said.
"Could someone please tell me what's wrong with my husband?" Aunt Grace demanded angrily.
I sighed and walked over to Doctor Harold. "Can I see the reports?"
My question shocked everyone. Doctor Harold frowned, probably wondering why I'd ask to see something I supposedly wouldn't understand.
Despite his confusion, he handed me the file.
I opened it and started reading the initial report.
Uncle Lucas's wolf was weakening due to an overdose. My eyebrows shot up when I saw that.
I kept flipping through the pages, reading about his symptoms and the pain he was experiencing.
The room fell completely silent.
When I finished reading, I looked at Doctor Harold and said, "He needs a treatment that can counteract the overdose effects."
"Overdose? Overdose of what?" Aunt Grace asked in disbelief.
Doctor Harold's eyes were fixed solely on me. As if he'd only heard my comment, he asked, "How do you know all this? How do you know what kind of treatment he needs?"
I looked away, avoiding his gaze. No one here knew about my qualifications.
I'd been a top student in medical school. For the past four years, I'd spent most of my time working at the pack hospital.
But I didn't want to say anything in front of Adrian's parents.
So I ignored his question and asked instead, "What treatment could help him?"
Doctor Harold understood what I was doing. He didn't push the issue and replied with disappointment in his voice, "He needs the Wolf Vine cure. It's a treatment that can heal our inner wolves."
Aunt Grace looked relieved. She was hoping her husband would get better soon.
But her relief didn't last long because one of the doctors spoke up: "Our pack doesn't have that cure. It's extremely expensive."
Aunt Grace glared at the doctor. "What did you just say? Expensive? Are you implying we don't have enough money? My husband brought this pack to its highest level of development, and my son is working to make it the wealthiest pack there is. And you're telling me the cure is expensive? How much does it cost?"
Doctor Harold shook his head. "Mrs. Miller, please calm down. That's not what he meant at all. Only healers can create that cure. The 'Wolf Vine' cure is a specialized medication developed by Doctor Max Harrison for healing purposes. We all know he's currently overseas. Even if we contact his pack, we can't reach him."
I listened carefully to what Doctor Harold was saying. It was true—Doctor Max was away from his pack. He was currently the most powerful healer around. He'd been my mentor too.
But I knew about the cure Doctor Harold was talking about.
Looking over, I noticed Uncle Lucas had fallen asleep from the injection. Aunt Grace's eyes were starting to fill with tears.
After taking a few deep breaths, I turned to Doctor Harold and said, "Don't worry about the cure. I'll handle it."
