Alpha's Twins Chapter 156
I shot him a deadly glare, my jaw clenched tight. "What the hell did you just say?"
Qadir let out a heavy sigh, like he'd already given up.
"You wanted to be with her, didn't you?"
His eyebrows shot up. How the hell did he know that?
"Listen, old man, you're way off base here. I'm not in love with that woman. It's just the damn mate bond messing with my head."
Qadir's whole expression shifted when he heard me say that. I could read him like a book. Even though he was trying to play it cool, his heart was hammering in his chest. I could hear every rapid beat.
Fear. That's what it was. Fear creeping up on him as he faced his Head Alpha.
"If that were really true, you would've rejected her already."
His words hit me like a punch to the gut. I'd never even considered it before.
Reject her? Could I actually go through with something like that?
But then her betrayal flashed through my mind again, sending a sharp pain shooting through my chest.
I couldn't accept that woman anymore. Sure, those kids were mine, and yeah, she didn't cheat on me while we were married. But she'd committed the ultimate sin by hiding my own child from me. She was planning to marry Beta Eric and live happily ever after with him.
If that's what she wanted, fine. She could run off with him for all I cared. I wasn't going to stop her anymore—I'd finally gotten her out of my system.
But she sure as hell wasn't taking my children with her. My kids deserved to carry my name and live like the prince and princess they were born to be.
Taking all of that into account, I drew in a deep breath and said, "I'm going to reject her real soon."
It was actually an easy call. I needed to kill these feelings that had started growing in my heart for her. Her betrayal had already done most of the work for me.
"Adrian!"
Patric's voice cut through my thoughts, and he shook his head at me. I couldn't figure out why he looked so shocked.
Qadir just chuckled and looked away from me. Then he muttered something under his breath—low enough that he probably thought I couldn't hear it, but I caught every word.
"You can't, Alpha. Even if you wanted to, you just can't."
This old bastard was really starting to piss me off. This was all Alpha Jason's fault. He never kept his pack members in line, gave them positions way above their station until they thought they could mouth off to the Head Alpha.
How the hell does a royal physician think he can talk to the Head Alpha like this? Just because he could see a few things and had some magical powers?
"You know what? I'm reconsidering my decision. Instead of throwing you in a dungeon, maybe I'll just kill you right here."
Qadir's face went pale. Patric stepped closer to me and said, "He's got power, and he could be useful to us. We could bring him into our pack. Killing him isn't necessary."
"Don't waste your sympathy on this old fool. How exactly do you think he'd help us? By telling you when you're going to find your mate?"
That shut Patric up real quick, and he looked away from me. He knew he couldn't win this argument.
"If you want to kill me, Alpha, go ahead." Qadir spoke up.
I turned my attention back to him. "Oh really? What's your big self-defense plan now?"
He stared straight into my eyes like he was watching some kind of movie, and his eyes went all cloudy.
"Alpha, I think you came to me a little too early. One day, you're going to need me."
I scowled at him. The confidence radiating off this guy was unbelievable.
I stormed out of the house, fuming, and jumped into my car. Patric followed me and slid into the back seat next to me.
"What do you think? I still don't think we should kill him, Adrian."
I turned to face him and decided to give in to his request.
"Fine, if that's really what you want, I won't kill him. But you're going to keep a close eye on him. Just because he helped her once doesn't mean he won't do it again."
