Alpha's Twins Chapter 43

I nearly choked on my water when I heard his question. I coughed and shook my head in frustration.

"What's wrong? Hit a nerve?"

His cold tone made me cough even harder, tears forming in my eyes. I downed the rest of my water, trying to calm my burning throat.

I slammed the empty glass on the table and stared directly at Adrian.

Should I just kill this bastard? Get my revenge? Would that make me feel better?

This man didn't deserve anything he had. His power and status just fed his arrogance. Maybe I should end him right here, free this pack from the fear he planted in everyone's hearts.

He took another drag of his cigarette, watching me.

His dark stare warned me that the second I mentioned anyone's name, he'd hit me with another cruel comment.

"You don't need to worry about being their father. Because you're not." I stood up as I spoke.

Fire flashed in his eyes like he was struggling to keep his temper in check.

"I came here for your dad. I'm going back to my pack tonight." I reminded him.

"If my parents knew what their precious ex-daughter-in-law really did during those two years, they'd hate you."

I actually laughed at that.

"Alpha Adrian, you need to get over me. I'm not your wife anymore. You should move on from the past where marrying me supposedly ruined your life. So stop blaming your parents for it. We're divorced - think about the life and kids you'll have someday with your precious Lynda."

My voice dripped with sarcasm, though I knew it wouldn't faze him. Because that's exactly what he planned to do anyway.

"About that rejection ceremony you want - I'm not participating," I told him.

I grabbed my phone from the table and turned to leave.

Suddenly, my phone rang. Eric was calling.

I answered and headed for the door.

"Eric."

This time Adrian didn't try to stop me. My heart felt heavy as I walked out of the cafeteria.

"You okay?" Eric asked.

"Yeah."

"We were wondering why you weren't answering our calls. Did Adrian pull something again?"

I walked into the lobby and sank into one of the couches, rubbing my forehead. I was so tired of dealing with Alpha Adrian.

"No, Eric. You know I always forget to turn off silent mode."

"Don't make us worry like that. Turn it off now."

"Okay."

I pulled the phone away from my ear and switched off silent mode.

"Done."

"Good girl."

I giggled at his praise. "Eric, what are my babies up to?"

"Having a blast with their grandparents."

"That's a relief."

"Actually, it's not. They want you back here soon. When are you coming home, Natalia?"

I paused for a moment, thinking. As I glanced around the lobby, my eyes landed on Adrian standing across the room. He was talking to a doctor, but his eyes were fixed on me.

"What the hell! Is he stalking me or what?" I muttered under my breath.

"Who's stalking you?" Eric's voice came through the phone.

"Some random guy," I mumbled, looking away from Adrian.

"Want me to come teach him a lesson?"

"Hell no, buddy. I can slap him myself."

Eric laughed. "Remember that doctor who used to follow you around in college?"

I rolled my eyes. "And you and Jason beat the crap out of him. I mean, bro, come on. He wasn't even bothering me, but you two are such overprotective wolves."

We both laughed, remembering the old days. Five years together. So many memories with my family. Eric was family.

"Jason called me earlier. I missed it. Should I call him back?" I asked, knowing Jason would probably lecture me.

"Don't call him. I'll tell him you're leaving that pack today."

"Thanks for always having my back."

After hanging up with Eric, I stood up. I'd been talking for a while.

I turned around and noticed Adrian was gone. Relief washed over me as I headed to the elevator.

I went back up to see Uncle Lucas. When I got to his room, I saw he was getting an IV.

Aunt Grace saw me and said, "Harold came by a few minutes ago to talk about his medication."

"Oh."

"He said Lucas can be discharged in a week."

"That's great."

Uncle Lucas, who'd been staring at the ceiling, looked over at me.

"Uncle, how are you feeling?" I asked, walking over to him.

The fact that the doctors were releasing him meant I was free to go back to my pack.

Uncle Lucas turned his head toward me and raised his hand. I smiled and took it.

"You're going to be fine soon. I promise," I told him.

I felt his hand trembling. He asked in a broken voice, "Can I ask something of you, sweetheart?"

I nodded immediately. "Of course. Anything, Uncle."

He glanced briefly at his wife before looking back at me. "Stay here with us for a week."

His request stunned me. I wanted to say no.

I felt Aunt Grace's hand on my shoulder.

"Listen to your uncle. Stay with us for a week. It would mean everything to him. He feels terrible about how Adrian treated you all those years. Now he's asking you to stay so we can show you how grateful we are. You're even helping him get better."

I looked at both of them. My problems were with Adrian, not his parents.

Even though I wanted to leave right then, I couldn't refuse their request.

"Okay, I'll stay for a week."

It was evening when I walked out through the hospital gates. My driver spotted me and quickly got out to open the back door.

I slid inside and sat in complete silence.

My driver got in and was about to start the car, but I stopped him.

"Wait."
