"Noah!"

I called out as I pushed through the door.

Both Noah and Adrian turned toward me. I noticed Noah standing protectively in front of Adrian, who was sitting on the couch.

"Mommy."

I walked straight to Noah, completely ignoring Adrian.

"Baby, how many times have I told you not to disrespect your father? He's your dad. You can't talk to him like that."

"No, Mommy. I don't like him. He's not my dad. He made you cry all the time."

I clenched my fists, fighting to keep my emotions in check. Even as a little kid, the memory of seeing his mother in tears had carved itself deep into his heart, and he still wasn't over it.

"Don't say that, sweetheart. I wasn't crying because of him—I was crying because of my own circumstances."

"Circumstances?" he mumbled, looking confused.

I ruffled his hair gently. "Go back to the party. Aria's waiting for you."

Noah shot a glance at Adrian. I realized Adrian had stayed completely silent throughout my entire conversation with Noah.

After Noah left the room, I turned to face the man sitting so calmly on the couch.

But when I looked closer, I saw fire blazing in his eyes. They weren't calm at all—they were ice-cold.

His gaze was locked on the door. From the moment Noah walked out, he'd refused to look at me.

"What are you planning to do to Noah? You want to punish your own son? How can you even think about that?" I demanded angrily.

"I already punished him," he said flatly, still not looking at me.

I stared at him in shock. "What did you do to my son? Did you actually hit him?"

My heart started racing at just the thought. Noah was as stubborn as Adrian—even if this man had hurt him, he'd never tell me.

Adrian completely ignored my question. He reached for the pack of cigarettes sitting on the table.

He lit one and started smoking. His arrogant attitude was making my blood boil.

I stormed over to him, furious.

I grabbed his wrist tight and snatched the cigarette from his fingers with my other hand.

I threw it down angrily. "Stop chain-smoking, you disgusting man. Answer me! What did you do to my son?"

I was about to let go of his wrist when I loosened my grip.

But suddenly, he shot up, grabbed both my arms, and slammed me against the wall next to the couch.

I gasped at his sudden move and stared at him wide-eyed.

"What was that guy talking about? Who gave him the nerve to call himself your future boyfriend?"

He moved in close to me. For a second, his words and proximity completely scrambled my brain.

Once I snapped back to reality, I pulled myself together and tried to shove him away.

"Get off me. You reek."

I was lying through my teeth. His scent was intoxicating, and it was driving my inner wolf absolutely wild. I hated the mate bond for making me feel this way.

Adrian loosened his grip on my arms but didn't back away.

He looked straight into my eyes and said quietly, "Don't test my patience, Natalia."
