Alpha's Twins Chapter 35
I turned toward the door as it opened, my attention immediately caught by the imposing figure who stepped into the room.
His perfectly tailored suit and flawlessly styled hair screamed authority. Cold as always.
Those sharp eyes swept the room before landing on me.
My wolf stirred restlessly under his gaze. I quickly looked away, focusing back on Alpha Lucas.
"I thought you were swamped today. What brings you here?" Adrian's mother asked.
"You don't seem too thrilled to see me," he shot back, his tone ice-cold.
I nearly snorted out loud but managed to keep it together. This guy couldn't even have a normal conversation with his own parents. He wasn't this rude to them before our wedding—hell, he married me just to make his father happy. But after that day? He stopped giving a damn about anyone or anything.
Now that he was head Alpha, I couldn't help wondering if the tables had turned—if his parents had to bow to his demands instead.
"You never visit your dad. That's why your mom's asking," Alpha Lucas said, studying his son.
Beta Patrick walked in just then, greeting Adrian's parents with a polite nod.
"The meeting got canceled, so Alpha had some free time today," Patrick told Auntie Grace.
That caught me completely off guard. Wasn't he the one who told that woman Adrian was stuck in meetings all day?
So why was he lying now, saying the meeting was canceled and Adrian was free?
And how the hell did they get here so fast? Sure, I knew his office was close to the pack hospital, but still.
I pushed those thoughts aside. I started to reach for the flower bouquet I'd brought for Alpha Lucas, but realized he was still holding my hand.
Auntie Grace caught on immediately. She grabbed the bouquet and handed it to me. I smiled at her gratefully and passed it to Alpha Lucas.
"This is for you, Alpha."
He slowly released my hand and took the flowers.
He tried to sit up, and Auntie Grace and I both helped him get comfortable.
Auntie Grace gestured for me to take the stool. I sat down so I could talk to Alpha Lucas properly.
While all this was happening, Adrian made his way to the couch on the right side of the bed.
The room was huge—like you could hold a business meeting in here. Several couches were scattered around for visitors. There was a massive closet, an attached bathroom, a small coffee table, and this stool by the bed. Medical equipment lined the wall next to his bed.
I glanced over at Adrian, who was sitting on a couch directly across from me.
He was staring right back. His expression looked almost surprised, like he hadn't expected me to show up this early.
"When did you get here?" he asked.
I looked away and answered, "Just now."
Everyone else went quiet while we talked.
Alpha Lucas cleared his throat. "Sweetheart, who told you about my condition?"
Something felt off. It seemed like he had no idea I was coming to see him. As I turned to look at Adrian, I noticed he was still watching me intently.
'Didn't he say his father refused to take his medication unless I visited?' I thought, frowning at him.
Like he could read my expression, he turned to his father. "Didn't you want to see her? I called her here."
His father stayed quiet for a moment, then gave a small nod.
"Yeah, yeah. He's right. I talk about you all the time."
For some reason, I couldn't stop myself from saying, "He told me you wouldn't take your medicine because you wanted to see me."
Alpha Lucas raised an eyebrow and looked at his son.
Adrian's face stayed calm, but he wouldn't meet his father's eyes.
"You told her that?" Auntie Grace's voice cut through the tension.
Alpha Lucas chuckled and nodded. "He's right. I have so much to tell you. I didn't want to die before I could say it all."
"Alpha," I said, shaking my head. "Don't talk about dying."
"Just call me Da—" He stopped mid-sentence and shot his son a bitter look. "Someone took that right away. Just call me Uncle."
I lowered my head. "Okay, Uncle."
"I'm not the head Alpha anymore. I'm retired now. All I want is to live peacefully with my family."
I smiled and looked back up at him. "Don't worry. You'll get better soon and be able to enjoy a happy, healthy life."
He shook his head. "I thought at my age I'd have grandchildren to spend time with me and Grace. But who can make this stubborn man understand what it means to be a parent?"
My heart ached knowing I couldn't give him grandchildren, even if we had kids.
The pain was impossible to describe.
I wanted to stay here with Uncle Lucas and Auntie Grace all day.
But Adrian wouldn't let me have a moment's peace. He sneered, "Dad, you want me to understand what it's like to be a parent? But there are plenty of people who have babies and refuse to claim them. Makes you wonder why. Maybe they're the products of sin."
