Adrian lowered his head toward her neck. The moment his nose brushed against Natalia's ear, her breath caught in her throat.

Even though she had zero intention of any physical contact with him, the closeness between them sent electricity shooting through her body.

"Why did you do that? I thought you were a—" Adrian paused mid-sentence, moving his mouth closer to her neck because he couldn't control himself anymore.

Her scent was intoxicating, making him forget everything else around him.

He could take on thousands of enemy wolves in battle, but his wolf couldn't resist his mate's scent.

Adrian inhaled deeply, brushing his nose along her neck.

Natalia's eyes went wide. She knew exactly what was happening, but her body went numb under his touch.

He was nuzzling the exact spot where a mate would mark their partner. Her most sensitive spot.

She was shocked he still remembered exactly where that was.

Adrian pressed closer and closed his eyes. This woman was driving him completely insane.

He couldn't forget how long he'd waited for her to come back and beg him to take her back. Watching her be vulnerable had become an obsession.

So when he saw this new confident version of her, he couldn't handle it. But he couldn't deny she was still his mate. Being close to her calmed both him and his wolf.

He wanted to take her right here, right now. He was losing himself completely.

The second his lips touched her neck, she gathered every ounce of strength and shoved him away with everything she had.

Like he'd been snapped back to reality, he stumbled backward.

He was shocked by his own actions. He'd been furious with her this whole time—how could he get close to her like that? How could he do this after finding out she had kids with another man?

Had he completely lost his mind?

Or had this woman cast some kind of spell on him?

"Stay away from me," Natalia said, glaring at him.

Irritated with himself, he looked away from her.

"Stop being so dramatic," he muttered, turning back to face her.

She touched her neck where his lips had been, then started rubbing it with a disgusted expression.

Adrian stared at her in shock. He didn't like how she was acting—like she was disgusted by him.

"Stop acting like I've never touched you before. You wanted all of this five years ago. Now suddenly you're acting like it's something you can't stand?"

Natalia was so frantic she rushed at him and shoved his chest in anger.

"How many times do I have to tell you that you have no rights over me?"

That was too much for Adrian. He grabbed her waist tightly and shot back,

"I know exactly who I have rights over and who I don't. If you're saying we're not married anymore, fine. But don't forget you're still my mate. I never rejected you."

Natalia broke free from his grip, which caught him off guard. Suddenly she had the strength to fight back.

She'd grown a backbone against him!

"Keep dreaming. I'll never let anything happen between us again."

Adrian sneered at her.

"Woman, you need to stop living in a fantasy. I don't want that either. A woman with illegitimate kids doesn't deserve to be my mate."

Natalia nodded and walked to the door. She opened it wide and said,

"Perfect. Now get out."

Adrian frowned. "Don't forget this is my house."

"You're right. Then I should leave."

Adrian's expression changed when he heard that. He hadn't meant it that way.

But if this woman wanted to leave, he wouldn't stop her. Otherwise, it would just make him look desperate.

"You don't deserve to stay here anyway."

With that, he walked out of the room.

"Adrian, I'm only here because I'm helping Alpha Lucas. Otherwise, I'd rather die than come back to see your disgusting face. Your parents apologized to me yesterday. That's the only reason I came back here last night. But I'm leaving your house right now, so you should be happy about it."

Natalia shouted after him and slammed the door.

"Screw my fate and this mate bond. I need to do something about this."

Furious, she cursed her destiny and ran her hands through her hair.

After calming down, she went to change clothes.

Later, she left the pack house after explaining to Adrian's parents that she couldn't stay in the same place as their son. They tried apologizing on his behalf again, but she insisted they weren't responsible for his behavior. She promised she'd still visit them every day for a few hours.

Natalia returned to the hotel room she'd booked for herself.

Since her kids kept asking questions about Adrian, she had to come up with an explanation. She told them not to mention it to anyone else.

One thing Natalia realized about herself was that she hadn't acted weak around Adrian today. In fact, her wolf was way stronger than she'd expected.
