Alpha's Twins Chapter 263
"Natalia."
I turned my attention back to Alpha Lucas. He was a decent guy, I could tell. There was genuine gratitude in his eyes—I'd saved his life, and he hadn't forgotten that.
"How are your parents holding up? Are they settling in okay with the pack?"
I managed a small smile and looked down. "How do you think they're doing, Uncle Lucas? You know how it is—being the former Alpha and Luna, having to leave their own territory and take refuge with the very pack that took their home. It's... humiliating for them."
Alpha Lucas reached out and gently placed his hand on my head. I met his eyes.
"I've heard about what happened to your brother. Doctor Max is an incredible healer—I'm confident he'll figure something out."
I glanced around the hall and spotted Max deep in conversation with another guy. Probably his pack's beta. When Max caught my eye, he flashed me that warm smile of his.
I smiled back, and I didn't miss the way Adrian's father noticed the exchange.
"You two seem pretty close."
Heat crept up my cheeks at his question. "Yeah, I guess you could say that."
Alpha Lucas studied me for a moment, like he wanted to tell me something but couldn't quite bring himself to say it.
I was trying to figure out what was on his mind when something behind him caught my attention.
Adrian walked into the hallway with Beta Patrick right beside him, saying something in his ear. Adrian looked completely unbothered by whatever Patrick was telling him.
I rolled my eyes internally. That guy was something else.
"Excuse me."
I excused myself from Alpha Lucas, who nodded understanding.
I turned on my heel and headed in the opposite direction, but nearly crashed into someone along the way.
"Easy there," the guy muttered, stepping back like I had some kind of contagious disease.
Like if we actually touched, someone might put a hit out on him.
I looked up at him. "Hey, Gamma Benjamin. How's it going?"
His frown caught my attention. "Looks like you're in a real hurry to get away from someone," he said, glancing over my shoulder.
I turned and saw Adrian standing across the room.
I ignored him and turned back to Benjamin. "What choice do I have? Your Alpha didn't exactly leave me with other options."
He looked back at me. "Look, I probably shouldn't be telling you this, but as gamma of this pack, I've got responsibilities."
That confused me. "What do you mean?"
He cleared his throat and wouldn't quite meet my eyes. "Just... don't tell the Alpha I said anything, okay?"
I smirked. "Why would I? It's not like I bribed you for information. But what's this big secret you're about to spill?"
I felt a little thrill of excitement. Was Adrian's own gamma about to throw him under the bus?
But then he said something that made my blood run cold:
"The Alpha can't focus on pack business because of you. He's been acting weird lately, saying strange things. I've never seen him like this before. He's constantly thinking about you."
