Third POV

When Adrian's grip tightened around her throat, Lynda couldn't breathe. She should have walked away when he first told her to leave. Her confession had only made him angrier.

Adrian released her neck when he saw her face turning pale.

Lynda dropped to a crouch, coughing and clutching her throat. After several moments, she finally looked up at him.

His eyes were completely cold. No trace of regret for what he'd just done to her.

He'd always treated her with kindness before. This was the first time he'd lashed out at her like she meant nothing to him.

"Adrian, you just did that to the person who saved your life. You realize that, right? How can you be so heartless?"

Adrian glared down at her.

"If I could hurt my own wife for all those years we were married, you should've figured out this man wasn't good for you. I thought you were better than this. I never imagined you'd turn out to be such a manipulative liar."

Lynda got to her feet and wiped her tears. "You want me dead, don't you? You're too blind to see that woman's love—and now she's in someone else's arms."

Adrian clenched his jaw, fighting the urge to do something he'd regret later.

She touched the burn scar on her hand, staring at it as she spoke.

"You saved my life once, and that's the only reason I'm letting this go today. But if I find out you're hiding more from me than I already know, I swear no one will be able to save you from me."

Lynda spun around and rushed out the door, sobbing as she left.

"I hate you, Adrian. You broke my heart today for that woman."

Adrian lifted his hand and took a long drag from his cigarette. Only smoking could calm his nerves right now.

"Don't you think you were a little rough on her?" Beta Patrick asked, walking over to the bar to fix himself a drink.

Adrian steadied himself before answering.

"I treated her exactly the way she forced me to treat Natalia all those years ago."

The next day,

Adrian tried to lose himself in work, but he couldn't stop thinking about what he'd read in Natalia's diary. It was like watching her pain and tears play out right in front of him.

He'd almost forgotten about what happened at the party and how Natalia had chosen Max.

It was around noon when he was reviewing a file. His secretary knocked and entered his office.

Adrian noticed his nervous expression. "What's wrong?"

The secretary handed him a tablet and replied, "Alpha, it looks like some news outlet leaked private photos of you and Miss Lynda online."
