"Max is here?" I asked, rushing to the door.

"Nat–"

I turned back to Liana. "That's someone important. I really need to see him."

When she nodded, I hurried out of the break room.

I scanned the café and spotted Max sitting at a window table. Walking over, I stopped beside him.

"Max."

He was on his phone but looked up when I spoke.

"Natalia, can we talk?"

I figured he wanted to discuss my brother, so I was about to say yes. Then I glanced down at my apron.

"Actually, I'm working right now. Is this about my brother?"

His eyes followed mine to the apron. After a moment, he said, "It's fine. I can wait until your shift ends."

His gentle tone caught me off guard. I couldn't make him wait all day just to talk to me – I was the one who needed his help. My brother was sick, not his.

I looked back and saw Liana watching from behind the counter, eyebrows raised in curiosity.

"I'm in the mood for a mocha. Think you could make me one?"

Max's voice pulled my attention back. I nodded. "Of course."

As I walked back to the counter, I noticed the other waitresses stealing glances at Max. Not that I could blame them – the guy was definitely easy on the eyes.

"Who's that, Natalia?" one of the waitresses asked.

"Dr. Max."

"Your boyfriend?"

The question threw me. "No," I said, slipping behind the counter.

I started making Max's mocha, noticing Liana had gone quiet.

"Sorry, I couldn't hear you earlier. What were you saying?"

"Nothing important. Is he someone special to you?" Liana asked, nodding toward Max.

"He's Dr. Max Harrison."

"Wait – *the* Dr. Max Harrison? The healer?" Her eyes went wide.

I nodded. She sighed and whispered, "Should've known our ex-Luna would know people like that."

Her words hit me like a slap. *Ex-Luna?*

I just shrugged and poured the coffee into a mug, setting it on a tray.

I was about to head over but turned back to Liana. "Would it be okay if I talked to him for five minutes? I promise I won't make it a habit during work hours."

"Have I ever stopped you from doing anything, Natalia? You know I think of you like a daughter. I trust you with this place every single day."

I smiled at her. This woman had such a good heart. I felt a wave of relief that Adrian hadn't canceled her shop's contract – her business really needed it.

"Thanks, Liana."

I carried the tray to Max's table and set it down. "Here's your coffee."

"I'd love some company from a beautiful woman."

I couldn't help but laugh. "Okay, let me find you a pretty waitress then."

But he stopped me with his next words.

"I meant the most beautiful woman in this café. Actually, make that the most beautiful woman in this whole pack."
