Alpha's Twins Chapter 48

I knew those eyes way too well. The second his cologne hit me, I muttered under my breath.

"Adrian."

Was he seriously trying to mess with me right now?

He just stood there, staring. I shook my head.

"Look, I get it—this is your pack house. But quit following me around."

I spun around and headed for my room. Weirdly enough, Adrian didn't say a word or try to start an argument. But I could hear his footsteps right behind me.

My stomach started doing flips.

Thank God I was almost at my room. The door was cracked open just enough that light was spilling out into the hallway.

I picked up the pace and grabbed for the doorknob.

Adrian was still walking behind me, all casual-like, so I whipped around to face him.

Now I could see him clearly. His eyes had shifted from red to black.

"What the hell is wrong with you? Why are you following me?" I snapped.

He stopped right in front of me. That blank expression he'd been wearing? Gone. Now his face was full of straight-up hostility.

Shouldn't I be the one acting pissed off here?

"Following you? Don't flatter yourself, sweetheart. I'm going to my room."

He jerked his chin toward a door just a few feet from mine.

"Your room? But the Head Alpha's bedroom is downstairs."

Adrian brushed past me and said, "I didn't want that room."

I just stood there watching him walk into the room and slam the door.

I jumped at the sound.

"So he wasn't following me? God, I'm an idiot."

Taking a deep breath, I went into my room. I heard the maid's voice behind me.

"Miss?"

I turned around and let her in. She had a water pitcher and glass with her. After setting them on the nightstand, she left.

The second the door closed, I chugged some water. I flopped down on the bed, praying this week would fly by.

---

The next morning, I woke up early out of habit—usually I'd be getting ready for work.

But I felt lazy since I literally had nowhere to go. No work, nothing. Should I just pretend this whole week was some kind of vacation?

I went to shower. While getting dressed, I noticed my body hadn't really changed much over the years. How else would the designer still know my size? She'd sent clothes in my old measurements.

I stepped out of the bathroom and checked myself in the mirror. In this dress, I actually looked like some kind of socialite.

After blow-drying my hair, I headed downstairs.

"Good morning," I said to Uncle Lucas and Aunt Grace.

They smiled back at me. I noticed Aunt Grace was helping Uncle Lucas walk to the couch. I jumped in and took his other arm.

Once Uncle Lucas was settled on the couch, he looked at me and patted the spot next to him.

I glanced at Aunt Grace, and she gave me a little nod. I sat down beside Uncle Lucas.

He reached over and put his hand on my head. I could feel a slight tremor in his fingers.

"Every time I look at you, I think about how you could've taken care of this family, led this pack with real responsibility. You're a good person. My son was an idiot for not seeing that and losing you."

"Yeah, he's a fool," Aunt Grace said, sitting down on my other side. Now I was sandwiched between them.

I kept my head down and listened. I was determined not to get into any conversations about the past. But they hadn't seen me in five years, so of course they wanted to share their feelings. I couldn't blame them for that.

Right then, we heard the click of heels on the floor. We all turned toward the entrance and saw Lynda standing there. I couldn't help but frown when I saw her.

She was still gorgeous, no doubt about it. But her style had definitely changed. Five years ago she wore simple clothes—now she was decked out in expensive stuff. I could guess where the money for those clothes was coming from.

Lynda's eyes zeroed in on Uncle Lucas's hand on my head, then shifted to Aunt Grace.

I could tell she didn't like how close I was with Adrian's parents.

"Good morning," Lynda said, completely ignoring me.

This woman made my skin crawl. When I was married to Adrian, she'd wormed her way into our lives and completely stolen him away. On top of that, she kept lying to Adrian, telling him I was bullying her in our own house. The truth was, she was the one bossing me around. I never said anything back because I was so crazy in love with Adrian that I didn't want to rock the boat.

"Morning, Lynda. What brings you here?"

Aunt Grace's voice snapped me out of my memories.

I looked over at Aunt Grace and noticed her expression was ice-cold. She clearly wasn't happy about Lynda showing up.

Was she being strict because Lynda was about to become her daughter-in-law? Or did she just not like Lynda?

Lynda slowly walked toward Adrian's father, who looked completely unbothered by her presence.

"I came to check on Uncle Lucas."

"I'm fine. You didn't need to come," he replied.

Lynda let out a little laugh, glanced at me, then said to him, "How could I not come? My father-in-law is sick. It's my duty to take care of you."
