Alpha's Twins Chapter 201
"Go ahead," I told Harold to keep talking. The room fell dead silent. Dad and Patric were glued to the screen like Harold was standing right there instead of on the other end of a phone call.
They were dying to know the truth. Harold's voice filled the room as he started talking.
"Alpha, I've gone through all the records and reports."
"So what'd you find?"
"Alpha, there was definitely a girl named Lynda admitted to the pack hospital. But not on the day you mentioned. She came in the next day. Her right hand was completely messed up. When she got to the hospital, she was covered in cuts and bruises - looked like hell. She must've been in pain for hours."
Hearing Harold's words, I clenched my fists tight. All that rage I'd been holding back against those bastards who took me came flooding back.
How dare they hurt the person who saved my life? Where the hell were they? If they were still breathing, I'd make sure they died in ways they never saw coming.
I glanced over at Dad, who looked like he'd seen a ghost. He must've felt me staring because he looked up at me.
Without looking away from him, I asked Harold, "Anything else?"
"Yeah, she was an orphan. Nobody came to sign the paperwork as family."
I saw Dad's expression soften. I gritted my teeth and turned away from him. He shouldn't have brought this whole thing up. Now it was all going to come back to haunt me again.
"Alright, got it."
Just as I was about to hang up, Harold said, "One more thing, Alpha."
"What?"
"The old head doctor treated her personally. There's a note in her file."
"What's it say?"
Harold paused for a second, like he was reading it over in his head.
"Her body's in rough shape. Since she broke the bones in her hand, she can't use it to lift anything heavy or play instruments."
I ended the call. I couldn't listen to anymore. I was done. My chest felt like it was on fire thinking about that night.
I closed my eyes as those memories came rushing back. I let out a low growl to push them away.
When I opened my eyes, Dad and Patric had their heads down.
They submitted when they heard my growl. I sighed and tried to get myself under control.
"Did you hear Dr. Harold? You heard what she went through to save your son, right?"
Dad lifted his head and nodded at me like he finally got how badly he'd screwed up.
"Don't ever doubt her again."
He looked away from me, clearly embarrassed about what he'd done.
Good. He should feel like shit. He didn't just hurt Lynda - he dug into my past and made jokes about the woman who risked everything for me.
Patric kept his mouth shut and his head down. I walked past him and left the room. He turned around and followed me like the loyal beta he was.
When I got back to the living room, Patric filled Mom in on what Harold had said. Mom put her hand over her mouth. When she thought about what Lynda had been through, tears started filling her eyes.
Lynda rushed over and threw her arms around me. She was sobbing hard as she said, "Nobody believed me. But I knew you'd find out the truth. Adrian, thank you for trusting me."
I patted her back to comfort her. "I don't know how I can ever repay you."
She shook her head. "You don't need to. Just be my partner and stay with me."
My hands stopped patting her back. I clenched my fists and said in a low voice, "The only thing I can promise you is that I'll make those men pay with their lives."
