Alpha's Twins Chapter 59
Adrian kept his eyes on the road, following Natalia's taillights through the darkening evening. He couldn't explain why he was chasing after her—hell, he wasn't even sure he understood it himself. But when his mother had casually mentioned that Natalia was leaving, something inside him had snapped.
How dare she leave his territory without his say-so?
The first raindrops hit his windshield without warning. He glanced up at the sky, noticing the heavy clouds rolling in.
"Great. Just what I needed," he muttered.
The asphalt quickly turned slick, reflecting the storm clouds above. Thunder rumbled across the street, echoing off the buildings.
Adrian's focus stayed locked on Natalia's red brake lights ahead.
He pulled out his phone and hit her number, steering with one hand. He needed to stop her, needed answers to questions he couldn't even put into words. The thought of her just... leaving sat wrong with him.
When she declined his call for the third time, anger flared in his chest. Each rejected call twisted something tight inside him.
"Why the hell won't she pick up?" He gripped the steering wheel until his knuckles went white.
Winter rain always made everything worse—more fog, more ice, visibility down to nothing. The road ahead became a gray blur.
Every fight they'd had this week flashed through his mind. Her sharp words, the way she'd looked at him like he was nothing more than an obstacle in her path.
"Does she really think I'll just let her walk away?" He pressed harder on the gas.
Meanwhile, Natalia stared at her buzzing phone. Adrian again.
She had no idea what he wanted, but she sure as hell wasn't obligated to find out. She wasn't his pack member, and he definitely wasn't her Alpha.
She powered off the phone and shoved it into her purse.
"Can we go faster?" she asked her driver. "I want to get home."
Her driver glanced in the rearview mirror. "Yes, Miss. I'm already pushing it."
She nodded and turned back to the window.
Sitting in the backseat, Natalia watched the world blur past. Everything that had happened this week played on repeat in her head. She was done with this place, done with these people. She'd never set foot in this pack again.
Raindrops raced down the glass beside her. The sudden storm seemed to mirror exactly how she felt inside.
She'd come here to help Alpha Lucas, and mission accomplished. Now she was going home to her family, to her twins who were waiting for her.
The thought of her children made her chest tighten. The way they'd acted around their father still threw her for a loop.
One question kept circling in her mind: *What happens when they figure out who he really is?*
The steady hum of the engine and the rhythmic swish of the wipers made her eyelids heavy. But her thoughts mixed with the familiar sound of rain drumming on the roof.
Each droplet seemed to carry pieces of her past, sliding down the windows the same way memories slipped through her mind.
The peaceful ride shattered when her driver's shaky voice cut through the quiet.
"Miss, the brakes aren't working."
Her eyes snapped open. "What?"
Terror wrapped around her throat like a noose. The safety she'd felt seconds ago crumbled into nothing.
She stared at her driver in disbelief, then looked ahead at the road.
He was right. The brakes were completely gone.
Her driver fought with the steering wheel, his knuckles white as he struggled for control. The wheel wouldn't respond.
The rain had turned the road into a skating rink. The car slid sideways, completely out of control. Without brakes, there was no way to stop.
As they approached a steep incline, time seemed to slow down. Every second stretched into forever. The car lost all traction.
"HOLD ON—"
Natalia's scream cut off as the car lurched violently.
They started spinning.
Panic exploded in Natalia's chest. This couldn't be happening. She was going to die.
Behind them, Adrian watched the nightmare unfold in his headlights.
His heart stopped when he saw Natalia's car lose control and start spinning.
The scene ahead looked like something out of his worst nightmares. His whole body shook, his mind refusing to accept what he was seeing. His wolf roared inside him.
There was no time to think, only time to act. Even knowing he could die, Adrian didn't hesitate. He yanked his wheel hard to the right.
His heart hammering against his ribs, he aimed his car straight at Natalia's with a prayer on his lips.
With a precision born of pure desperation, Adrian's car slammed into Natalia's.
The impact stopped the deadly spin cold.
Metal screamed against metal as the collision brought both cars to a halt just inches from the cliff's edge.
