Alpha's Twins Chapter 40

I didn't turn down Dr. Harold's request since I wanted to talk to him about Uncle Lucas's condition anyway.

I nodded in agreement.

"We have a cafeteria for the medical staff here at the hospital. Would that work for you?" he asked.

"Yeah, sure."

We headed toward the cafeteria together. Sure enough, there was an impressive cafeteria on the left side of the lobby.

The place was spotless and comfortable. As we walked in, several people in white coats glanced our way.

They gave Dr. Harold respectful nods, which he returned as he made his way to the last table by the window.

"Have a seat," he said, pulling out a chair for me.

"Thank you."

I sat down, and he took the chair across from me.

After setting the bouquet on the table, he signaled to a waiter, who came over and stood beside our table.

"Dr. Harold," the waiter greeted him, then glanced at me.

I felt awkward as people kept looking in my direction. I started thinking this was a bad idea—we should have gone somewhere outside the hospital instead.

"Please order whatever you'd like," Dr. Harold said, sliding the menu toward me.

Since I'd skipped breakfast, I was pretty hungry. I looked over the menu and placed my order, then handed it back to Dr. Harold. He ordered for himself, and the waiter left.

"So, how did you manage to survive? It's honestly a miracle," Dr. Harold said.

I looked down at my hands resting on the table, then turned toward the window where I could see cars passing by outside the hospital.

After gathering my thoughts, I replied, "Crossing the border was rough. But fate was looking out for my kids. It saved both them and me."

"How are they doing?"

I turned back to him. "They're doing great—healthy and happy. Thank you for keeping my secret, Dr. Harold."

"Just call me Harold. You already think of me as a close friend, right?"

I figured the receptionist must have told him what I'd said to her.

I gave him a small smile. "True. I guess calling you my friend wouldn't be wrong, Harold."

"I saw those posts."

"Posts?" I asked, confused.

"The statement from the Blue Blood Pack's beta, and then your post about Lynda and Alpha Adrian."

"Oh."

"Everyone thought you were dead. But after seeing those pictures of you with the Alpha, I realized you're living in the Blue Blood Pack now."

"Yeah. That pack is my home now."

"How are you managing there? What about your kids? How are you raising them? If you ever need help, just ask."

"Thanks for caring, Harold. But I'm really happy there. My babies are thriving. Want to see some pictures?" I asked excitedly.

"Absolutely," he replied with a warm smile.

I pulled my phone from my purse and was shocked to see multiple missed calls from my brother and Beta Eric.

Harold glanced at my phone screen and asked, "Was he telling the truth in that statement?"

I looked up at him. This man had helped me so much—I didn't want to lie to him. I shook my head.

He raised his eyebrows. "Really?"

"Yeah."

"Then why didn't you set the record straight publicly?"

I shrugged. "I don't need to. I don't care what that pack thinks of me."

He stared at me for a moment, like he was processing something.

Then I opened my photo gallery and showed Harold pictures of my children, including ones from when they were born.

"They look like their father," Harold murmured.

I looked away and pulled my phone back, biting my lower lip hard.

Honestly, I didn't know what to say. My parents had said the same thing.

I was lucky Adrian couldn't see the resemblance between him and them.

I thought about how they'd met him—they couldn't forget him. One wanted to see him again; the other didn't like him at all.

I was lost in thought when Harold spoke again.

"You know Adrian knows about them, right?"

I looked at him. "They met him at the airport when I was coming back from the council event."

I frowned. "But how do you know about it?"

He turned toward the window and sighed.

"He came to see me a few days ago and asked if you were pregnant when he left you at the hospital five years ago."

My heart skipped a beat. I couldn't help worrying about what would happen if Adrian discovered the truth.

"What did you tell him?" I asked hopefully.

"I wanted to lie, but he already knew when your children were born."

My heart clenched when I heard this.

"D-Did you—"

"I told him I didn't examine you that day," he said, turning back to me. "Don't worry. I've removed all records of your pregnancy from the hospital files. He'll never know he's their father."

I let out a shaky breath. I couldn't speak for a while, just stared at the man in front of me. I knew Adrian well—he probably threatened Harold to tell him the truth. But Harold chose to protect me instead.

Silence fell between us.

After a moment, I placed my hand over his on the table.

"Thank you so much, Harold."

Harold smiled at me, but when he looked up at something behind me, his smile disappeared.

His eyes widened in surprise as he said, "Alpha!"
