I froze. Was she really on the phone with Adrian? Since when did Adrian have time to chat with my coffee shop boss?

But why didn't he just cancel the order?

The idea that he'd somehow talked Liana into sending me back to his company made my blood run cold.

Adrian must have hung up, because Liana pulled the phone away from her ear and finally looked at me.

"You're back, Natalia."

I took a deep breath, seeing how happy she looked. But I couldn't keep letting that man walk all over me.

"Liana, I'm sorry."

I dropped my head after saying it. She came around the counter and took my hand.

"What are you apologizing for?"

I looked up at her. "I'm not going to the pack company anymore. Starting tomorrow. I'm sorry if the Alpha cancels our order because of it."

Liana just stared at me for a long moment, her expression unreadable. Then, out of nowhere, she burst out laughing.

She pulled me into a hug. "Honey, you don't need to apologize for anything. The Alpha already told me he's keeping the order even if you don't want to work at his company."

I blinked. Had I heard that right? Adrian actually said that?

The second I realized he was probably plotting something, I clenched my jaw. He had to be planning something.

*I don't trust him one bit. He's smart—no, scratch that. He's cunning. The guy shouldn't even be a wolf; he should be a fox.*

Liana's voice cut through my thoughts.

"I think he feels bad about hurting you before."

I stared at her. "What did you just say?"

She glanced around the shop, then pulled me toward the back room. She handed me my apron, and I tied it on automatically.

"I don't know what went down between you two, but I think the Alpha cares about you."

My eyebrows shot up. Why was she saying this? Wasn't she the same person who kept telling me to move on and never look back at my ex-husband?

"Liana, he probably just really likes the shop's coffee. That's why he didn't cancel. Don't read into it. He might be your head Alpha, but to me, he's still just my ex-husband."

She shook her head like she disagreed. "Natalia, it's not like that. He wants me to—"

"Natalia."

One of our staff members poked her head into the room, cutting Liana off.

I looked at her. "Yeah?"

She jerked her thumb toward the front. "There's some guy named Max Harrison here. Says he wants to see you."
