The driver headed back to the car after dropping off the bag with Natalia. She pulled her phone from her purse and checked the screen.

I had no clue who the hell had been interrupting our conversations.

I glanced at her phone and saw an unknown number. She looked just as confused about who was calling.

"Hello?"

Her whole face brightened up, like whoever was on the other end had just made her day.

"Max!"

Max? Who the fuck was Max?

I scowled at her beaming smile—the same face that had looked miserable just seconds before.

What kind of guy could flip her mood that fast?

"After that night, I figured you'd never call me again."

My hands balled into fists when I heard that.

That night? What night? She had the nerve to spend the night with some other guy?

A million questions raced through my head as I stared at her.

"I'm sorry about what I did. After I got you back to the hotel, I realized I shouldn't have slipped my number into your pocket. That was pretty forward of me, wasn't it? Hope you're not mad."

I was floored. I couldn't believe she was so into some other guy that she'd throw herself at him like that.

What happened to her thing for Eric? Wasn't she about to marry that asshole?

Nothing about this woman made sense. Every time I thought I had her figured out, she'd prove me wrong. And now I couldn't even be pissed at her for this.

"Yeah, yeah. Good thing Alpha Adrian was there to help you out that night," Natalia mumbled, shooting me a look.

She was so caught up in her conversation that she seemed to forget I was sitting right there.

That's when it clicked—she was talking to Dr. Max Harrison.

I remembered how Max had asked her to help him get back to his hotel. The way they'd been practically leaning on each other in my car was burned into my memory.

I looked away as that night came flooding back.

How the hell did the pack healer get so close to Natalia? When did that happen, and why?

"I'm on the bridge over the Dalle River right now."

I turned back to watch her. She had this sweet smile while talking to him, the kind that lit up her whole face and made my chest tight.

She never smiled at me like that.

Jealousy hit me like a freight train.

Max was a healer—crucial for every pack. Having him in mine was definitely a good thing. But why was he chasing after Natalia? What was his angle? Had they known each other before, or was that night their first meeting?

My mind was spinning with too many questions at once.

I found myself staring at Natalia's delicate features. I hadn't been around for all these years. I wondered how she'd managed life with my kids.

I'd been hunting for her like a madman, planning to make her pay for walking out on me.
