Alpha's Twins Chapter 226
When Eric turned to look at me, my heart just broke. His eyes had lost that spark they used to have. He looked so pale, and that commanding presence he always carried was just... gone. He looked so weak.
It reminded me of when I first woke up in the Blue Blood Pack after escaping from Crystal Blood. I was a mess back then, just like he was now. But Eric had been there for me. Besides Jason, Eric was the one who helped me through everything. He became my friend, shared all my pain with me. He helped me pick up the pieces and move forward. I started thinking of him as family. He meant just as much to me as Jason did.
I stepped into the room and shut the door behind me, then walked over and sat on the edge of his bed.
"Eric, it's been way too long."
He managed a smile, though I could see how much it hurt. He lifted his hand, and I grabbed it right away.
"How are you holding up?" I asked.
"Natalia, you haven't changed a bit."
I laughed softly. "It's only been a couple months, silly. Not like it's been ten years or something."
That got him to laugh too. "I know. But I don't think I'll be around long enough to see you get old anyway."
I shook my head hard. "Don't say that. I promise you're going to be okay. Jason's going to be fine too."
He told me how the poison was eating away at him, how much agony he was in every day. But he was actually grateful that Jason was unconscious because he was terrified his best friend would have to go through this same torture.
"Doctor Max found a cure. He's going to save both of you."
"Are you sure about that?"
I nodded firmly. "Absolutely."
"Then tell him to save Jason first."
I bit my lip, looking at Eric. Even now, he wasn't thinking about himself—just his alpha.
I squeezed the back of his hand gently and said, "Eric, Max has a condition for the treatment."
His eyebrows pulled together. "What kind of condition?"
"He wants me to be his girlfriend."
I expected him to be shocked, but instead he started chuckling.
"That guy. Of course he did."
I let go of his hand. "Did you know about this?"
He smiled at me. "About what? That he's got it bad for you?"
My eyes went wide. "Y-Yeah."
He sighed. "Your brother knew too. When Max visited our pack during the alliance talks, he asked your brother to let you study medicine. He wanted you to train under him so you could follow your dreams. But it was pretty obvious he wanted to be with you."
My mouth fell open. I remembered telling Max how my family had all these expectations for me, so I couldn't pursue what I really wanted.
Is that why he went to talk to my brother?
I looked at Eric, who watched me for a moment before saying, "You like him anyway. Why not give the guy a shot?"
