Natalia's POV

I stood behind the counter taking orders, my eyes constantly drifting to the clock on the wall. Closing time couldn't come soon enough.

Max had promised to check on my brother tonight and talk to my father about Eric's health. Just thinking about him made me smile a little despite my exhaustion. I'd been working nonstop for four hours since getting back to the shop, but meeting Max today had made it all worthwhile.

There was something about his gentle nature that just got to me. I kept replaying the way he'd helped me when I was drunk at the pack gathering, and how he'd stumbled into this very shop that first time, clearly having had a few drinks himself.

The first thing he'd said when he saw me at the pack was that he'd been looking for me.

Now I understood why. He liked me.

But did I like him back?

Everyone kept saying I had a crush on him, but was that really true?

I bit my lip, remembering what I'd told him when he asked me to come to the kids' birthday party with him.

I'd said yes.

I'd actually agreed to go with him. I wanted my babies to meet him, and if they liked him... well, that would be perfect. I was excited to introduce them to him.

Lost in my thoughts, I heard the familiar chime of the door bell. I looked up expecting another customer, but froze when I saw who walked in.

I frowned. What the hell was he doing here?

His eyes were bloodshot and angry as they locked onto mine. The nerve of this guy, glaring at me like that.

Who did he think he was? And what was he even doing here?

I noticed several customers turning to look at him, but thankfully he didn't march over to the counter to make a scene like last time. Instead, he walked to an empty table and sat down.

The customers went back to their business, completely unaware that their head Alpha was sitting right there among them.

"The Alpha's here!" I heard one of the waitresses whisper excitedly.

I turned to them with a stern look. "Focus on your work."

"Natalia, he must be here to see you," another one said.

I raised an eyebrow. "Can't you just pay attention to what you're supposed to be doing?"

The waitress looked down when I snapped at her. I sighed, realizing I'd been kind of harsh.

The other girls looked hurt too. I shook my head and softened my tone. "Look, I'm sorry. Just ignore him and do your jobs, okay? He's a customer who likes our coffee - that's why we deliver to his company every day. Maybe he wants to order something extra, that's all."

I tried to make them understand there was absolutely nothing going on between me and that man.

These waitresses were pretty young, and now they were actually arguing over who got to take his order. I couldn't help but shake my head at how unprofessional they were being.

Ignoring their bickering, I grabbed a menu and walked over to his table myself.

I set it down in front of him and gave him the coldest greeting I could manage.

"Alpha Adrian."
