Alpha's Twins Chapter 49
I stared at Lynda, my stomach churning with disgust. What was she thinking? Did she really believe her petty comments would get under my skin?
I wasn't the same Natalia who used to let people walk all over me. If I wanted to, I could put her in her place right now. But I was a guest here, and the last thing I needed was to start drama with Adrian's girlfriend. That would just make him think I was still hung up on him.
"I think you're forgetting something," Uncle Lucas cut in. "Adrian hasn't made you Luna of this pack."
Lynda's face changed instantly. She opened her mouth like she was about to snap back, then thought better of it and looked down.
"You're right, Uncle. Adrian hasn't declared me his Luna."
Aunt Grace turned away from her. "Well, if he doesn't want to, don't push it. Maybe he's still figuring things out."
Lynda's head shot up, tears streaming down her cheeks. She looked genuinely hurt.
For a split second, I actually felt sorry for her. Adrian had been with her for years. Why hadn't he made her Luna yet? Didn't he claim to love her?
"What's going on here?"
A voice came from behind us. I turned to see Adrian coming down the stairs.
He walked straight to Lynda. "Why are you crying?"
Something clicked in my brain. Did she see him coming and turn on the waterworks? The timing seemed awfully convenient.
Lynda wiped her eyes and grabbed his arm. "It's nothing, Adrian. Uncle was just talking about me."
Adrian looked from her to his father, then his eyes found mine. They reminded me of last night – the way he'd stared at me with those red eyes. Something had been different about him.
I looked away, wondering if his wolf had taken control.
"Cut the attitude," Uncle Lucas said. "We were talking about you and her. You haven't made her Luna."
Adrian frowned at his father but glanced at me before answering. "Very soon."
Lynda's eyes went wide. I watched her reaction – she clearly hadn't expected him to say that.
She gave Adrian a bright smile.
Just then, Lynda's driver rushed into the pack house with a bouquet and fruit basket.
"Miss, sorry I'm late. I forgot to bring these in," he told Lynda.
"It's fine," she said, taking them from him.
She walked over to Uncle Lucas and handed him the flowers. "I heard you like flowers, so these are for you."
Then she set the fruit basket on the coffee table. "And fruit to help you recover."
Uncle Lucas took the bouquet without saying anything.
Some maids appeared to tell us breakfast was ready.
"Let's go eat," Uncle Lucas said.
I took his arm to help him up. Lynda moved to help too, but he held up his hand to stop her.
"Adrian, Lynda, join us," Aunt Grace called.
As we walked past Adrian, I could feel him watching me. I ignored him and focused on helping Uncle Lucas to the dining room.
I sat in the same chair from last night's dinner, across from Uncle Lucas and his wife.
"Can I look at your prescription after breakfast?" I asked.
"Sure," he said.
"Why do you want to see it? You won't understand anything anyway," Lynda said as she walked in. Adrian was right behind her.
To my surprise, he sat down in the head chair to my right. I'd figured he'd sit on the left side – that's where Uncle Lucas always sat when I used to come to family dinners.
Lynda came over to my chair. "Why are you sitting here? This is my seat. Or did you forget you're not Adrian's wife anymore?"
I started to push my chair back to get up, but Adrian's voice stopped me.
"It's fine, Lynda. Sit in the next seat."
I stared at him in shock. He didn't look at me, just started eating.
Lynda stood there looking stunned. Aunt Grace looked at her. "Why are you just standing there? Take another seat. Natalia is our guest. She can sit wherever she wants."
"Y-Yes, Aunt," Lynda mumbled and sat down next to me.
Aunt Grace started serving Uncle Lucas breakfast. When she reached for the peanut butter, I spoke up.
"Aunt Grace, don't give him that. He's got a nut allergy."
Everyone turned to look at me. Adrian raised his eyebrows. "How do you know that?"
"I saw it in his medical reports," I said.
"Why were you looking at medical reports?"
"I wanted to check them."
Lynda laughed. "How ridiculous! I heard you dropped out of school after you got married. How could you possibly understand medical reports? You think this is some kind of game? I also heard you said you'd find a cure to help Uncle. Do you even know who Dr. Max is? The cure you're talking about is his cure."
Lynda fired off one insult after another. Aunt Grace glared at her, so she ducked her head like she was some innocent, obedient girl.
In that moment, all my thoughts about keeping quiet about my past went out the window.
I turned to Lynda, seeing her for the evil woman she really was.
Time to expose you, I thought, smiling at her.
"You sure have a lot to say. Let's talk about my conversation with my father."
"What do you mean, Natalia?"
I could hear the nerves in her voice. I looked right at her in front of everyone.
"Don't try to act smart. I still have the message you sent me."
