Piece by piece, everything started clicking into place. Our Gamma was the one who went to Jason at the pack house and fed him lies. Even though Adrian was just coming to help our pack, he told Jason that Adrian had declared war on us.

He was the only official who reached out to me personally, pushing all my buttons by bringing up my father during our entire conversation. He knew damn well I'd never let any family member get dragged into a war—that I'd throw myself on the front lines before I'd let that happen.

"Where is he? I'm going to kill him." The rage hit me so hard my eyes flashed blue as the words ripped out of my throat.

"We haven't seen him this whole time. Figured maybe he got hurt or something. The war went on forever, and we lost so many fighters—we had no clue where he'd gone," our Theta told me.

I clenched my fists until my knuckles went white. "How could someone that close to us just... betray us like that?"

Eric took a deep breath, looking like he was wrestling with something. "Jason got sick right after the celebration party. I'm starting to think our Gamma was behind that too."

My eyes went wide. The fury was eating me alive from the inside. If an Alpha couldn't trust his own people, then who the hell could he trust?

"He was loyal to Alpha Leo. How do you just sell out like that? My brother was so strong before he got sick. If he hadn't gotten ill, he never would've had to bow down to another Alpha. He could've taken Leo down single-handedly."

Betrayal tasted like poison in my mouth. But people who could stab you in the back without a second thought? They didn't deserve to keep breathing. I figured he'd taken Leo's blood money and ran during the war to save his own skin.

I looked straight at our Theta. "Find that bastard. I'm going to give him the kind of death that'll haunt people's nightmares—make sure everyone remembers what happens when you betray your Alpha."

He nodded and headed for the door.

Right then, a couple of guards walked into the room, scanning the place before their eyes landed on me.

"Alpha Adrian wants to see you."

My stomach dropped. I wasn't ready to face him. Not after what I'd done to him in that war, all because I'd gotten everything wrong. And now he knew the truth about my kids. What was he planning to do to them?

My father started toward the door and turned back to me.

"Don't worry. I'll come with you."

The guards threw up a hand to stop him. "Just her."
